Visteon Corporation selected Roncelli to construct this 220,000 square foot light manufacturing facility on land that was formerly part of the original world headquarters of Chrysler Corporation in Highland Park, Michigan. The site, designated by the State of Michigan as a “Brownfield” property presented numerous challenges, including a fluctuating ground water table, hidden underground obstructions and encapsulation requirements. The majority of the building’s construction consists of cast in place concrete spread foundations, pre-cast concrete bearing walls and structural steel columns on a 50 X 50 foot bay configuration with a metal deck roof supported by wide flange beams and open web bar joists. A 60 mil fully adhered EPDM roof membrane overlays 2.7” of rigid E.P.S. insulation.
The 14,700 sf office construction included areas for training, quality control, break and lunchrooms, lockers, restrooms, conference rooms, supervisory staff cubicles and I.T. support. The large dock area included 13 doors for material handling. A 50 ton crane covers 24,000 sf of shop area. The 3,200 sf power plant area houses chillers, pumps, compressors, switchgear, and an emergency generator.
This fast track project was ready for Visteon’s production equipment installation within four months from the start of construction, with full completion of the facility one month later.
